Limit external ping to specific source IP

Post by SirCadian »

I'm wanting to set up thinkbroadband's ping monitor (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping) to take a look at the overall quality of my internet connection. I've been seeing some packet loss periodically and i'm hoping to identify a pattern/source. I'm reluctant to stop blocking ping on the WAN IP completely and would like to only allow pings from a specific IP address range (80.249.99.164/28). How do I go about setting this up in the packet filter?

Thanks,

Originally, I thought these routers couldn't do this but I was wrong!

All you need to do, is keep the "Block WAN Ping" settings ENABLED and then create an exception for the IP you want to allow to ping.

You create these exceptions in the "Incoming IP Filtering" screen. Just select the IP, choose ICMP for the protocol and you'll be all set.
