Mail Alert with 7800DX and Firmware 2.32e

Hi

I'm aware this topic has been explored before with some people unable to use the mail alert facility, eg.

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4012&p=13080

... using 1&1 mail servers I get the same response as the author of the above topic ie. 503 Bad Sequence...
Forunately they resolved their issue using a Google mail account. I tried this and could not connect. I tried 2 more mail servers ie. Fastmail and BT Mail but all fail to deliver any alert emails. I have tried all combinations of 4 mail servers, with & without SSL/TLS checked and ports 25, 465, 587 and 995 but the 'Account Test' always fails with a variety of errors such as the '503' error above, lost connection (timeout) or even no error... the accounTest.html window just keeps periodically refreshing.

This is very frustrating, this feature should work easily enough. I have a Synology NAS on my LAN which sends error/notification emails to my Fastmail account using smtp.fastmail.com, SSL/TLS and port 465 with no problems at all through my 7800DX.

For those of you who do have Mail Alert working, do you have any suggestions as to how I can get this working ? Did you have to do something extra in the end to make it work for you ?

Thanks, Pete B.

Works fine here with gmail. I had to generate a app password for the router (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en), as I have 2-Step-Verification enabled on my gmail account.
Once I generated a app password, I had to use that password, in the email alert section, instead of my normal gmail password.

Thank you very much for your help with this, it's genuinely appreciated.
I followed your example and I now have the Mail Alert 'Account Test' working correctly by using an app generated password, because I have 2FA for my Google Account too. With regard to my Fastmail account, which also has 2FA, I tried a similar approach by generating an app/device password (I already have one of these setup to notify from my NAS, as mentioned in the previous post, which works fine). However, the solution does not work with Fastmail, I really don't know why.
It works fine though with Gmail, that's good enough for me :D

thanks again for the 'heads up' on this, Pete B.

UPDATE:

Mail Alert was finally achieved via a Fastmail account by using port 587 (as with GMail). However Fastmail's express requirement for SSL/TLS with SMTP is actually to use port 465... which doesn't work ! ... then, tucked away in the smallprint of their help system I finally found this, "if your client supports the STARTTLS command you will need to use port 587... ok, got it then ! ... because Mail Alert on the 7800DX does invoke STARTTLS.
