Usb unmounting and remounting

Post by dmpfran »

I have noticed the following in my logs on two occasions. The first time, the drive was remounted as usb1_2 which stopped my other machines being able to mount it (I had to reboot the router to fix it). On this occasion it has remounted as usb1_1. Do you know what its causing this to happen ?

The only time I have seen this, if the harddrive has been disconnected from the router and been reconnected.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The drive is permantly attached to the router. The log shows that this occurred at 6.41 in the morning, I was still asleep. :)

Is the harddrive formatted to NTFS or FAT32?

I'll test my harddrive on my unit at home and let you know the results.

Thanks for your reply,

I have replaced the usb cable with a heavily shielded one (in case it really is due to EMI). I will report back if this makes any difference

The drive has just unmounted and remounted again, so the new cable made no difference.

I am giving up on using the 7800DXL as a NAS drive. I have reattached the drive to our main computer where it has been working reliably for the past three years. I am a bit disappointed as I have had failures using my 7800DXL as a DLNA server (see other post) and now as a simple attached drive.

I must say its great as a standard router and wireless AP, its a pity the other functionality doesn't seem to work reliably/at all.

The new firmware release should improve compatiblity with NTFS drives. (it should at least resolve DNLA issues, but once I get the firmware I will test it)

I tried my harddrive yesterday, but it seems my western digital HD is DEAD  so I will have to source another one to test with.

Try the attached beta firmware, I tested a NTFS drive on this firmware and the hard drive never disconnected during my 2 day burn test.
