Dropped connections

Post by jazzguy »

I've had my 7700N up and running for about 5 hours now. I have, however, suffered from dropped connections on 3 occassions. My ISP is Bt internet and I used utility for easy installation that came with the 7700N to set it up. I wonder whether there is something obvious I've overlooked in the set up or whether the 7700N. I would welcome any advice before I reconnect my BT Home Hub 3.

Hi jazzguy

Are you using a phone extension to connect to the 7700N?

Does the same issue occur on your BT-Home hub?

Thanks for the reply. I am using a phone extension and have the 7700N connected to my PC by ethernet.

With the home hub 3, I suffered from occassional re-booting in the early hours of the morning i.e. at about 05h00 and once every 2-3 days. The main reason I bought the 7700N was in the hope that it would hold a connection more robustly than the HH3. I was a bit dismayed, therefore, to see the dropped connections - 3 times last night, twice this morning. That said on all but one occasion the 7700n has reconnected at the same speed. I am using RouterStats light for monitoring.

Have yout tried to connect directly to the main the telephone socket that comes into the house.

Maybe you could connect it up for testing and see if the same issue occurs when directly connected to main telephone socket that comes into the house.

Thanks. I haven't done that yet. I realise I may have to but its physically a bit difficult because of the location of the test socket.

Looking at the last two occasions that the connection dropped, it appeared to coincide with the following in the sys log.

Dec 7 13:20:56 syslog info -- MARK --

Dec 7 17:09:59 user crit kernel: eth0 Link DOWN.
Dec 7 17:09:59 user info kernel: br0: port 4(eth0) entering disabled state
Dec 7 17:10:02 user crit kernel: eth0 Link UP 100 mbps full duplex
Dec 7 17:10:02 user info kernel: br0: port 4(eth0) entering forwarding state

Do you know what this is telling me? With apologies for my ignorance!

I think the logs refer to a drop in ADSL sync.
